Arthur Jones (inventor) was an American inventor and entrepreneur who was best known for inventing the Nautilus exercise machine. He was born on November 22, 1926 in Arkansas. Jones was a self-taught engineer and inventor who developed the Nautilus exercise machine in the late 1960s. He was also the founder of Nautilus Inc., a company that manufactured and sold exercise equipment. He was also the founder of MedX Corporation, which developed and sold medical exercise equipment. Jones was a strong advocate of physical fitness and believed that exercise was the key to a healthy lifestyle. He was a proponent of high-intensity training and was an early adopter of the concept of periodization. Jones was married to his wife, Mary, for over 50 years. He had two children, Arthur Jr. and Mary Ann. Jones died on August 28, 2007 at the age of 81. He was inducted into the National Fitness Hall of Fame in 2008.
